You could take route 2 up and 3 down. Or for most variety, route 2 up and 1 down, and back to Grindelwald by changing trains in Zweilütschinen. Feel free to post here if you need more advice: www.myswissalps.com/community/forum/questions/

An absolutely superb video! I am a regular visitor to Switzerland and this video is a brilliant summary of the choices available. In particular, I would stress the point that Grindelwald TERMINAL is outside the village and not a place where you would want to break your journey.

Very helpful video, we are visiting switzerland next week and helpful tips like this is really appreciated especially going to a place that is unfamiliar to us. I do hope our trip would be a stress free holiday. Any trip itinerary you can advise for a 3 day holiday? We are only staying in Geneva as our hotel base.

I'm glad to hear that! You'll find itinerary suggestions here: www.myswissalps.com/planning/itineraries/. But if you will stay in Geneva for the entire time then the list of activities here might be more useful: www.myswissalps.com/town/geneva/#activities. There are lots of options and it depends on your interests and how long you wish to travel each day. We will be visiting Switzerland again in the autumn of this year. No doubt about it: we will have the STP. It's so easy, you can just board, sit down and enjoy the scenery! Nice and clear film, by the way!

@@cookmaster3626 I believe so, I have been standing in a train more than once. That's why we always buy the STP first class now. You can also take a look in the forum of MySwissAlps.

@@cookmaster3626 That's no problem. You can board whether or not all seats are taken. I rarely had to stand by the way. If it happens, find a seat when people get off at the next stop.

On all my many visits to Switzerland from Britain since 1972 I have bought a Swiss [Travel] Pass. Why the frequent visits? The beautiful scenery, the public transport and the 'STP'. This video is the best explanation of the STP I have ever seen. The first fifty seconds emphasising that it is valid to every village and on all forms of transport is of central importance to British visitors used to chaotic ticketing sytemS.. This video also makes the important point (which I only learnt in 2002) that STP has the same basic validity as the GA. The GA and the STP are NOT valid on the boats TO ITALY on Lake Maggiore. But I recently saw a notice at the Locarno ticket office that the GA IS valid on LOCAL boats around Locarno. The office immediately accepted my STP.

Thank you for your comment and compliments, I really appreciate it. I agree that the Swiss public transport in general and the Swiss Travel Pass specifically are amazing compared to many other countries. Combine that with the scenery, as you said, and it made me come back again and again as well. "Only" since 1997 in my case 🙂 Kind regards, Arno.

I regularly take a vacation in Switzerland. I stay in Zurich, using it as a base to explore Switzerland. Switzerland is a small country with the best public transport in Europe. From Zurich a day trip to practically anywhere in the country is perfectly possible. I ALWAYS buy a Swiss Travel Pass.

Great Info! I was wondering why such a reservation (20 CHF) was there. It seems that everyone booking from their website in advance needs to pay it. However, when I read their website "...Seat reservations are optional but highly recommended..." We can actually just buy a ticket at the station without paying that 20 CHF, I think...
